Peaches, peaches…

Peaches, peaches, peaches for free, lots of peaches, but none for me, boo hoo.

I planted two contender peach trees in my fruit orchard. There were as of last week over two dozen peaches hanging. They were nice size and color but still very firm as of last week. Yesterday the peach trees were wiped out. The six foot diameter wire cage was intact for each tree, but the bear(s) I’m guessing didn’t care. I did get two that they left and boy were they delicious. Next year a solar powered electric fence will be going up around the fruit trees and strawberry patch.

Bears will get to anything. We had a problem with them when I was young just could not keep them out of our fruit trees. Dad had a great idea he hooked an electric fencer to a garbage can then put pancakes on the top and smothered them in syrup. The next day the can was licked clean as a whistle but the ground all around the can was dug up like you just tilled your garden. I assume each time his tong hit the can he got shocked and his toes curled up. funny to see.

You know as soon as I saw your picture of those peaches I thought wow he must not have any bears down there.

I would love to plant soft fruit trees on my farm but the bears would absolutely terrible apart. I’ve never been in any doubt of that. I thought many times how much fun it would be to have apricot trees. It would never work though.

Those were absolutely terrific looking peaches by the way really beautiful.

    Bears?!

I’d have to worry about myself with a peach tree.

Would probably find me in the morning, gorged, naked, juices and chunks of peaches still strewn about in the beard, peach seeds piled high in a neat pyramid to show off my glory.

Yeah, I got a thing for the fruit.

Ohhhh, the two I did get were succulent. The variety is Contender, developed in Minnesota. Now the game begins. I’ve got the electric fence stuff including a DC controller. Add an AGM battery and solar charging, and put a trail camera on it to learn what works and maybe get some laughs.

Tree ripened peaches…ahh the guilty decadence…damn bears
