    This one was special…

Coming from Twin Cities metro waters, I’m tickled pink to have caught this hawg on Saturday.

I didn’t know panfish could give you a ‘big fish high’!

Released btw, to help sustain the gene pool.

Very Nice! Fish like that don’t get caught often around the metro.

Never thought I would ever top the fish from last years post, but did it today – twice! Somebody pinch me…

Caught on public waters here on the metro using 2” gulp minnow suspended under a Thill slip bobber. Both released along with the others to sustain the gene pool.

Thx guys. These don’t come around every day or even every lifetime. Very special fish; at least for me.

    Or anywhere!

Nice fish. My largest is just over 15” caught on vermilion.

All three would look nice in replica mounts on a big piece of driftwood!
    Awesome crappies!

A more traditional shot. Hard to make any panfish look big when you’re 6’5” tall, but its the best I can do.

Like Brian, to show length/size I take a photo of the fish next to a ruler along with the lure that caught the fish. This one was over 13″, 14″ the largest crappie I ever caught:

Fish size is deceiving when held closer to the camera.

Still, any large crappie caught on light tackle such as Brian’s 17″ fish put up one hell of a fight! Wish we had that quality of fish in the waters I fish.

Interesting this post got resurrected. Fun looking back on such a special event. I’ve been fortunate to catch a lot of great fish in my lifetime – some huge muskies, bass, walleye, pike, trout – but those two giant crappies, caught only 45 mins apart, still remain one of my most treasured of all fishing experiences. I was super lucky and don’t take it for granted, not for a minute.

Know the feeling. I can still remember my first 5lb. LM bass caught as a lightning storm approached. Too bad they didn’t have digital cameras back then.
