But one thing he can do is announce the game like you are watching it.
Good radio play by play guys do exactly that. Help you visualize what is happening without seeing it.
I can see people nit picking his over the top style, but he is effective and very good IMO.
When I watch sports, I get into the game and you can see the plays develop. If you are listening to the radio you lose all of that unless you have a very good play by play person and few can do it.
People make fun of the “He’s Looooooooooooooooooossseeee”, but on TV it would be easy to see the player has no one to beat, but radio, not so much so it adds that visual element we miss.
If I am listening to a play by play guy for MY team, he better be passionate and bleed the color of our team or whats the point? If I wanted to listen to a play by play of “Joy of Painting” I certainly would do that, but when it comes to sports that radio voice better make me feel like I am watching the play as it happens.
