He is employed and paid by the Vikings. He knows where his bread is buttered. The outlandish calls and made up phrases are to garner the attention of ESPN and to get his ego stroked. Nothing more, nothing less.

I can’t listen to him but if others want to good for them. To each his own.

I would just caution that I’m not sure he has ever uttered a sincere word over the air waves in his life.

Did PA kick your ass 20yrs ago or what? There’s not appreciating his announcing style, then there’s getting personal, I say you’re bordering.

I listened to a little bit of a Packers game on the radio and I have to say the announcers were boring, dull and drab. It was like listening to a high school football game on the radio. We really don’t have it that bad listening to Paul. He adds a little excitement to the game.

I love PA for Vikes games, it’s football you should be excited! His radio show can be a little much at times, but he’s the best play by play guy in the business imo.

Gary Thorne would be a good choice as well.

NORRRRRRRRVVV!!!!!!!! I love it how the Comman Man uses that to make fun of PA. But I have to agree he makes listening to the games just unbearable. I think he would be better in my mind if he wasnt so over the top. But one thing he can do is announce the game like you are watching it.

Good radio play by play guys do exactly that. Help you visualize what is happening without seeing it.
I can see people nit picking his over the top style, but he is effective and very good IMO.
When I watch sports, I get into the game and you can see the plays develop. If you are listening to the radio you lose all of that unless you have a very good play by play person and few can do it.
People make fun of the “He’s Looooooooooooooooooossseeee”, but on TV it would be easy to see the player has no one to beat, but radio, not so much so it adds that visual element we miss.
If I am listening to a play by play guy for MY team, he better be passionate and bleed the color of our team or whats the point? If I wanted to listen to a play by play of “Joy of Painting” I certainly would do that, but when it comes to sports that radio voice better make me feel like I am watching the play as it happens.

Captain M – My whole point is exactly what you say, however I just have a difficult time visualizing every play as if it were the Super Bowl winning play. Natural progression of a good game will bring the excitement not the announcers over the top calls. His over the top color commentary are about as ridiculous as a defensive player celebrating a sack in the final seconds of the 4th qtr when their team is down by 3 TD’s.
Save the scream calling for when they win the big one.
And please Vikes, just once before I die.
