Hey Paul, every call is not the final play of the Super Bowl.
You make it unbearable to listen to the Vikes on the radio due to your over the top play calling on each and every down.

    Thanks Paul.

I would rather be duct taped to a chair a forced to watch the View than listen to his show or a vikings radio broadcast. Boring…………….

Kevin Harlan can be over the top and still be entertaining and knows he’s not the reason people listen. Allen thinks he’s the star.

Paul Allen is absolutely great………..if you are 13-14 years old. His insistence on making a mediocre play into a great play is old. His trying to convince you he knows anything about any sport other then football is laughable. It’s like Sid Hartman talking about hockey, you just giggle, shake your head and turn the station.

I will give him credit, he took a radio gig and made a career out of it. Vikings announcer, Canterbury announcer, radio host. Can’t stand to listen to him but he is getting paid.

As a Packer fan few things have brought me greater joy than listening to the paul allen call when the vikings implode. My favorite one is the game against the cardinals about 12 years ago. Comedy gold. The one with Favre in the NFC championship game is also a classic but I was rooting so badly for Favre that it stung a bit.

Vikings? I watch them on the radio with the sound turned down.

No, that’s really what I meant to say.

Disagree. I am not a hardcore Vikings fan, but listening to him actually keeps me interested. Last week and this week I worked around the house while listening and then tuned in at the end.

Now if KFAN would get rid of common man and fix the morning show, it would be good all day.

Funny, I rarely watch sports. But listen to sports radio. Morning show was good until they got rid of Mike Morris, now it’s garbage. 93x gets that air time now, front or back anyone devil Common is just good entertainment plus Rosen is always good to get going. Barrero can be good with some of his guests but overall is an enjoyable break from MPR.
I can see why Paul Allen can be one of those you love it or hate it. He knows when to turn it up, and take a step back. He gets pumped for big plays and not so much when play is down. Its sports, entertainment, and he makes it just that.

My wife who loves the Yankees and when we had DirecTV with the YES network, listening to those broadcasters and others is so different. They really let the game do the talking and chime in here and there. Playoffs with the national guys talking non stop would drive her absolutely nuts. I can see how sports purists would be quite annoyed with Paul Allen along this same line of thinking.

I prefer PA to most of the guys calling on TV. Today’s crew for the Rams games is one of the exceptions.

It’s all personal opinion. I won’t under any circumstances listen to him be it Vikings or radio. But personal choice is what makes this country what it is.

I would be curious to know which other ones you have listened to if you think he’s the best. Too many rehearsed/forced lines and he’s waaaaaayyy behind on many of the calls, you can tell by the crowd reaction what happened and he’s overthinking it how he can make “sounds of the nfl” on monday morning.

Try listening to a pack/vikes game sometime and listen to both…he’s awful

I will disagree with most of you… I think he is pretty dang good calling Vikes games and I don’t mind his 9 to noon show. If I could somehow sync up the TV to the radio, then I would love to watch the game on TV while listening to him at the same time.

I listen to KFAN just about every day from about 6am to 5 or 6pm whether it is on the radio in the car or on iheartradio in the office at work. I go in spurts about what shows I like/dislike. One of the reasons why I enjoy KFAN (and others do not) is that I can’t listen to 100% serious sports talk for that long, so I enjoy the bits and guys that don’t know a ton about sports but can still keep it entertaining.

Cory Cove is the only guy that I really really dislike.

Don’t like it, why listen? Paul Allen is great. Without him it’d be like listening to a baseball game on the radio, talk about BORING

I dunno, I guess relative to what else is out there, he doesn’t really bug me. If you ever tune in to an internet radio app or whatever to get the other side’s broadcast of any sporting events, there’s a lot worse out there IMO.

Plus, as OTT as Allen can be, that bugs me a lot less than some of the national TV announcers in various sports.

In these days of I Heart Radio and other internet apps, IMO there’s no reason to force yourself to listen to a guy you don’t like. Tune into the other side’s broadcast if you don’t like Allen. Problem solved.

Like stated by others, lots of options out there. Many of the duos for the networks are just downright terrible.
I think Pete Bercich is very good and for the most part they’re a good team.
It’s three hours of entertainment a week. (For most people)

Yeah – Pretty much my point, but when I shut the radio off I’m having one heck of a time listening to the Vikes game.

Paul Allen was ranked the 6th best NFL radio announcer by an article in Bleacher Report a while back.

The Top 10 NFL Radio Announcers

    By Mike DiPietro, Correspondent

Number 6: Paul Allen (Minnesota Vikings)

Paul is, by far, the loudest and most thrilling announcer I have ever heard call a game. His best known call is just him screaming “TOUCHDOWN”, but he doesn’t have to scream to be brilliant in his execution of calling games.

There is something special about being up in the mountains of Colorado with no data, no cell, no radio & no TV. 2 weeks of no civilization and you easily forget about all the annoying things in life. I need to go back VERY SOON.

I’ve been listening to the Vikings for 50+ years. PA is the worst announcer they have had. There are times I try to listen, but I just can’t tolerate him for long.

The difference isn’t (at least in my case) that we don’t appreciate passion for the game. I just think PA sounds like a bad actor who really wants us to believe he cares.
