With a spring ( 1st part of June ) trip planned for Canada this year, I applied for a renewed passport back in late Feb. At that time they said the current process time was 4-6 Weeks. Even at the 6 weeks I should have received it by mid April at the latest. That should have given me a full 6 weeks cushion. With the current border restriction set to expire on May 18th or 19th and knowing they were most likely going to be extending for another Month ( Till June 18th or 19th ) I figured I better see if I would have it by then, or see what needs to be done to get it by then. I went on the passport website and confirmed the application was received the last part of Feb. The status said being processed. There was a note that said if you have travel plans within the next month to call. After being on hold for 1/2 Hr or more my call was answered. I was told that the current delay could be a additional 4 months on top of the normal 4-6 weeks processing time. I asked if there was a way to expedite it – The Answer was NO. I asked if there was possibly any exceptions that would be made at the Canada border with proof of the application delay – The answer was they were told – NO. So even if the border restrictions are lifted in either May or June – It looks like no spring Canada trip for me this year. I’m not even sure if I will have it for my Fall trip in Sept. I sure hope no one else has a passport being processed or were planning on sending in a renewal application anytime soon. If so, I hope your travel plans are along ways out.

my mother works (worked) at the passport agency. They are discussing going back to work next week but as of now everything is closed and no one is in the building processing anything. She said there is loads of work piled up there. Its possible they go back to work as early as next Monday. My mom is 64 and has underlying conditions so im hoping she doesn’t return but she has to earn a living so idk. i guess that’s the situation some of us are in.

Canada and the US are on different paths but the Canadian tourism market wants Americans up there. Who knows what the Canadian government will do when it comes to allowing americans to cross

Some of restrictions that have been lifted on workers still says that if someone has underlying conditions that its suggested that those workers still stay home. I know 2 people with such conditions and they are still going to stay home and continue to receive their unemployment ( With 600.00 a week extra ) I would think your mothers situation would be the same. Not sure if it is different from state to state or not. I know the exception is in the Minnesota Governor’s latest

Unless hers has been in longer than mine – Aug. is going to be touch and go.

I wish the border crossing peeps wanted Americans up there as much as the Canadian tourism peeps did. My border crossing driving to the north have been worse than any other country around the globe.

That stinks. I have crossed that border 3-4 times per year for 20 years and have had maybe 2-3 bad experiences, worst one was coming into the states
