I am assuming this is Cargill talk that is going on?
I would assume she is building a big ass house or two.
She would need a variance(s) and if so she seems to be going about it incorrectly.

They know what they are doing. She isn’t dumb. We work for her every week.

Agreed, and there are a $hit ton of rules, particularly there. Now if she somehow starts getting variances and allowances the general public won’t get, then get your pitchforks but it’s a little early now.

And I’m sure Duluth can make permits miserable hard to come by if they want.

Not if they want, that is the default. Duluth is notoriously terrible for any sort of approval or prompt permitting process.
What if she wants a home in the area, and fewer homes around it? Is that a crime?
If she puts us in a chocolate shortage like its predicted she won’t want anyone around. Why would you want a private estate with public beaches though, they seem pretty adamant that the public use in the area will not change for her.
The way I see it, if she’s legit and well meaning she’d have zero issues with allowing everyone to know her full intent.

Just curious. When you purchase something do you tell people what your intent is or want people asking?

Sounds like my dream.

I sure hope not. If so there are some real guilty people on this site

Duluth’s newest city council member owns a real estate company that represents Kathy Cargill. I’m sure she won’t pull any special favors or do any behind closed doors handshake deals to help her client that would not be available to the average citizen. /s
Last count I heard is she has acquired over 20 properties now and has or is in the process of demolishing them. The problem I have with how she is going about this is she’s buying these properties way over true market value (because when you’re a billionaire, you can do that) which, as a result, will artificially inflate other property values and thus increase property taxes and insurance premiums for us common folks.
If she starts getting preferential treatment due to her status and wealth, thats where I have a bigger issue. Billionaires dont have to play by the same rules as everyone else.
Cargill has also threatened to sue the press for reporting on her purchases. Gotta love people who infringe on the first amendment, am I right? How anyone continues to simp for billionaires is beyond me.
I wonder at what point they will rename it to Cargill Point?
Everyone loves to speculate. What are the guesses as to what their intentions are?
My guess: Clearly money isn’t and won’t be an issue, therefore there’s no business venture involved here. I think she wants to buy up as many properties as she can and possibly reduce the population density on Park Point while building themselves a home/homes for family. I doubt they will ever effectively buy out every property, but the more they acquire the more solitude they will have. The city will have the legal opportunities to stick to their guns about public access to the area (as they should).
Thanks, I did digging last night on this, unfortunately I’m not one for regulating and covenants but this a good example why they have them. At this point she’s not doing anything wrong, but kinda a big deal when you buy how many homes and tear them down, again not law breaking. But concerning.
This will be interesting on how it plays out.

What are you thinking she will be doing?
I envision a huge advertising campaign:
“The North Coast. A Place to Escape Climate Change”
“Enjoy Nature’s Largest Air Conditioner Located Along The Scenic North Shores Of Lake Superior”
“There’s no better place to enjoy your stay than at one of our luxurious 20 story condos. Our pricing starts at just $1,499 a night”
How anyone continues to simp for billionaires is beyond me.
Ahh yes, thinking rules should be applied evenly is “simp”ing.
Being instantly triggered by someone having money, and then spending money possibly not for the common good, is a sign of early onset socialism, soon you will be waxing poetically about the bourgeoisie (rich/oppressors) and proletariat (working class/oppressed).

Well that would be crazy. So dumb question.
Can or could the bridge support the huge metal trusses that would have cross over the bridge or would something like be barge them in.
Good idea to keep an eye on it. As long as no public rights are infringed on idfc. Be cool to walk along the beach of a huge new boujee property. Many boatrides as a kid on Tonka doing the same thing!

I’m sure getting her real estate agent on the city counsel has nothing to do with her intentions. All I want is for everyone to play by the same rules. Like I said, billionaires don’t have to play by the same rules as everyone else. Sorry for looking out for my fellow middle class folks who’s property taxes can be impacted by this person massively overpaying for these properties. I guess that makes me a triggered socialist?
One property she bought last year for $475k and the same property was sold the prior year for $150k. Seems legit
You cool with people using their power and wealth to restrict others first amendment rights too? That’s cool I guess
It’s just wild how people are so quick to shamelessly defend billionaires while in the same breath bashing politicians for being rich and corrupt. The orange man has totally fried your brains. You do understand that people don’t aspire to become billionaires to live a lavish lifestyle right? It’s about power. Money in this country is nothing but power coupons. Corporations and super pacs own the majority of lawmakers in DC and apparently it’s perfectly fine to own SCOTUS too.
Politicians are rich and corrupt because you people keep defending this behavior.
Labor cost too much? Well, let’s throw out those child labor laws and stifle minimum wage increases. How else do you keep the work force poor and powerless? Is your workforce retiring? Let’s cut entitlements, raise retirement age. Hell, why not end social security altogether. Apparently not having an item that costs a dollar on the MacDonalds dollar menu is a step too far for some of you.
If she were doing this to benefit the environment or anything other than herself, she would be making that crystal clear to the public. She is not.
Don’t worry though. Those billions will trickle down any day now. Any day now… Just like the orange man’s tax returns, or his healthcare bill, or that wall, or the evidence of voter fraud.
I live in Duluth. I love Duluth and care greatly for the wellbeing of the city. Duluth has been hurting for housing stock for a long time and the problem has only been getting worse. Kathy Cargill has single handedly wiped out ~2% of the entire housing stock of Park Point in under a year, with likely more to come. That concerns me along with the fact she’s doing everything she can to keep this hush hush (red flag) and if that makes me a triggered socialist, so be it. I’ve been called worse.
