I was in the sloughs of pool 13 again this weekend. There is so much current back there still. To say it is a challenge is an understatement. I kept these few for the morning. You can’t appreciate the size of these fish from the picture, but the filets were 2lbs. 3oz. None of these topped 12″. They were amazing fish though.

I caught four of them on slip bobber rigs and three on jigs. Two were taken on black feathers and one on chartruese tube (injected with crappie nibbles).

I ordered some heavier jig heads from Dean and they arrived today!!!! I hope to give them a try this weekend. Going to be tough though. I’m off to Boston next week and have so much to do, before I go.

Nice crappies! Are you fishing in the trees?

I target structure I can’t see above the water. In the sloughs down here that will be primarily trees.

Nice fish. How deep do you usually find them around the brush in the current? I don’t fish for them but once or twice in the fall and if they aren’t biting in the community hole, I usually just go home and watch football.

Those are some quality slabs Jeff.I was planning on trying pool 12 for some walleyes and crappies on Saturday but now you got me thinking about trying pool 13 up in CS.I haven’t been on the river for 3 months,is there still that much current and were you using any meat or bare jig?

They look like fine eaters to me.

I’m tipping my jigs with minnows. I have really come to believe that injecting tubes with nibbles is a big plus as well. I’ve caught everything in 6-8 feet lately.

There is a great deal of current up in CS. I couldn’t fish most places I like to stop at. I did try some lakes I usually don’t get into. I think I may try up Brown Lake way next time.

Another great report Jeff, enjoyed it…nice crappie picture and nice fish. Did you lose any bringing them into the boat or did you use the net?
