Mike and I got my Dad out looking for some panfish while he is here visiting from Florida. Crappies and whities saved the day. There is one nice mess of crappie fillets that are going to make a trip South
The first pic is Lock and Dam 7 holding back nothing, look out below there is still plenty of dirty water heading South
Heading up North to chase Musky’s now Have a great week and weekend people
AMWatson (who I haven’t seen in quite a while) and I spent some time on the water today in search of crappies and found some nice takers along with one tank blue gill that hit on a crappie minnow and white hair jig. It was great to spend some boat time with Mike again and on a beautiful day – sure beats school and work doesn’t it? Mike I hope you enjoyed the fish fry as much as I enjoyed contributing to it. The blue gill was a solid 9″ toad and the crappies were solid 11″+. We found these takers in 8′ -12′ of slack water that had some good structure and most were caught just off the bottom. Early in the day either a white or pink hair jig was the hot ticket and later a purple colored Mini Mert was hot. You can’t beat a fall day like today to enjoy the water. Can’t be too many left so you better get out there and enjoy it now that the water is dropping and conditions improving.
Today was a great day to be out. I am thankful for the invite from Mike to finally get out on the open water after a nearly 2 year absence. The quality of the fish today was very nice and more than I hoped for. I was just happy to be out on the water not having to think about pharmacology or running around in the ambulance for a day. My face shows just how nice of a day it was on the water-it is BRIGHT red I got home and filleted the fish and I am now enjoying them with a few tator tots. Thanks again Mike for inviting me out to spend a day on the water relaxing and enjoying the finer things in life.
Here are a couple pics from Friday 10/22/10 Mikehd had us on the spot with our last set up of the day. What was working last week from the Sparta Area front page report went South and to get fish there was a need for change. The pannies were tight in the cover in 10fow. Jigs and redworms still out produced minnows. Anchored up on the wood and fishing vertical was the ticket on this day.
Here is my best day pannie fishing in 2010. I know there are a few days left… but nothing could compare to getting one of the biggest ‘gills I’ve held and seeing my 3 year old boys face. He also caught his largest to date the same day…
