Night time gills

The night started off slow but ended with a bang. We caught numerous big bluegills but there were a couple that were donks… The gills that I am holding are between 10 and 11 inches but the one my son is holding is his new PB that measured 12.25 inches (weight unknown) I also got a bonus 14 inch crappie. The fish seem to be holding in the shallows with muddy bottoms for now but I am not sure how long it will last. No fish were injured or harvested during this outing.

I did not know that gills would eat after the sun went down. Those are all very nice, what was your approach. I mean were you using meat on a jig or what?

We were using a small white flu flu tipped with a berkley gulp maggot rigged 18-24 inches below a thill stealth float on 4# pound test. This is the most common rig I use and 99% of the time it pays off..

Those are some nice gills! I enjoy fishing for gills at night. In the hot months, I’ve caught them past midnight.

NICE — it’s so awesome to see kids out and actually successful at fishing. Something I hope to pass on to my kids.

    Kudos!
