I’m sad to see such a great weekend come to an end. This last weekend was my husband, my dad, and I’s second annual camping/fishing trip! My dad brings us to this magical lake in Northern, MN where the sunnies and crappies are ginormous and typically quite numerous! Friday started off sunny, but after the clouds rolled in we were forced to throw on our rain gear. The wind picked up and we fished in the rain for several hours. It was rather chilly, but nothing we couldn’t handle. Though we were fishing for sunnies and crappies, I snagged several small Northerns and was even able to successfully land a small snake! I believe we each got bit off by Northerns that first day. We had difficulties finding the sunfish, but we did catch two and also a nice mess of crappies. The second day was sunny but very windy! We caught more crappies and Billy caught a really nice bass. Dad was fly fishing; I was using my favorite display of a gob of nightcrawler on a small jig; and Billy mixed it up a bit sometimes flyfishing and sometimes using a bobber, jig, and Glup bait. That stuff reaks! Dad was having such a blast fly fishing that he unknowingly convinced me to learn to fly fish! I seriously wanted to get home early and run to buy a fly rod today! It looks like fun and I’m excited to learn. Although the weather could’ve cooperated better and we never found where the sunnies were hiding, we had a lot of fun and came home with a nice bunch of fish for a summer fish fry at the folks. Gotta love those!
