I have had a few trips out with the kids in the last few weeks. The results have been mixed with the panfish being very active in the low light periods, more so in the evening. A small hook with a lip hooked fathead has been the ticket for the crappies, when they want to bite. We have been sight fishing some areas where the fish are there, but just will not eat. We have been parking right over these fish, and at times we are catching these crappies in the shadows of the boat. Putting a struggling minnow in their faces has been working very well for us in the last week. Plastics have taken the back seat, the fish just don’t want to take them. When the crappies shut down, the small gills and bass are more then willing to put a bend in the rod. Having the kids out in the boat this time of year is a blast. The fish are active up in the shallows and easy to put a young child on, keeping them interested the name of the game.
