Great request. Last year I found the bite at Dresbach on May 24. I too will post if I find the bite.

I start to see them in numbers in mid-late April. I have bumped into active schools at this time of year, but the numbers will come in a few weeks yet.

Fun little tacklebusters for young anglers, that’s for sure!

When the boats vanish from the dam on pool 4….and the walleye have pretty much finished up their spawn…..(mid april)…………Head to the dam and cast 1/8-1/4 oz hair jigs till you find em! When you do, there will be more than 1! A blast to catch and every beginner, jig pitchin walleye guy, should practice with these guys! Great way to learn to detect bites, when the bite is fast and furious.

The white bass we have been finding lately in the river still seem to be hanging in there winter spots. This is in deep holes or cuts with little current. Good places to look at behind wingdams. These fish are very fat right now with spawn. They dont seem to be having any problem smacking a jig and a plastic.

They should start to move pretty soon towards shallower areas near back waters and feeder creeks to the main river. By mid too late april they should be going strong in these areas and this can continue threw may and into june. As it gets into summer the white bass bite may turn into a very early morning or evening bite.

Ill report back when they start to move. They sure do provide some great action.

I can nail those things this time of year off the cannon river in the fauribault area, caught over 100+ a day big and small. Just look for the sand bars adjacent to stronger current in smaller rivers and they usually smack anything silver especially small casting spoons.

They moved up in P9 the 3rd week of April last year. A very steady diet of them made for one of those “fish-a-cast” on more than one afternoon.

Another trick of the trade is to be on the look out for larger flocks of gulls especially when you see them dive bombing the water. More times than not a school of crappie, stripers or even walleye have driven the bait fish shallow making for an easy gull supper. I run across events like pictured and thrash the surrounding water pretty good….

THANKS for the compliment of ”youth” Jason. We ALL love casting to them when they are on the feed. LOTS of fun and a great way to get kids hooked on fishing.
    Thanks, Bill

Gotta love seeing the shad jumping like its shown in the pic above. You can catch a fish on about every cast when the white bass start driving the shad to the top and even out of the water.
    Thanks, Bill

i started to see some whitebass action in the stillwater area. main lures used where mimic minnows and plain hook with minnows. the key is to go slow. has anybody heard anything from taylors falls or prescott area as well as the hudson swing bridge.

I work in Taylors Falls/St. Croix falls and there is nobody fishing the river around here. Maybe ubove the dam or south of interstate park. The current is to fast right now to fish in TF. I fished the king plant a couple days ago and there was very little action. I only seen about 5 crappies caught between about 40 anglers in an hour and a half.

they are being caught in the interstate park area, the kew is to have big minnows and go slow. retrieve the bait but do it slow. too fast and the fish wont take it.
