i caught a alot of crappies and sunnies the other day and took a few home. i wanted to see what they were eating so when i was cleaning them i opened up the stomache of these fish, to my surprize the stomaches were filled with little small white worms or larvaes. and these things were moving when i poked them. is it normal for them to be like that or do the fishs there have worms living in their stomach.

By no means am I an expert but,it sounds like the fish you caught are infected with a parisite of some kind.As long as the parasites are confined to the gastrointestinal tract, you’re probably safe to eat the fish…….as unappetizing as that may sound.

really there is parasites that are like that. how often do you see them and do they effect you if you eat them. sounds deadly to me…

I’d have to guess that the fish had just went on a feeding frenzy. I have watched these small insect like larvae inching around the water coulmn on my underwater camera.

Did you catch your fish before or shortly after dark?

it was more like during the middle of the day… but a feeding frenzy was what i thought at first too, until the worms started moving than it was confused, if it was food the worms should be dead.

That would be my thought too. If they’re eating them, they should be dead or dying and in various stages of digestion.

Last fall I had caught some Walleye’s that I took home for dinner. When I cleaned the Walleye I noticed some fish in their stomachs. I opened one of them up and it was loaded with tiny Bluegills. A few of them started kicking around a bit so I would think that insects would do the same thing.

Nothing to worry about but interesting ovservation.

    Good fishing,
