I am new to fishing bluegill in the summer. I bought a G Loomis 6’6 light an am wondering if it was a good decision and what other tackle would I need.

Sure, that will get the job done!

In the summer I like to use a slip bobber and worm. Or split shot, hook, and worm drug real slow. I don’t beat banks for gills, I look out in 8-30FOW for the bigger fish.

Got hooked on a new idea from a friend last summer drop shotting with piece of crawler casting, drifting, or vertical is all good. I even used a jig on the bottom to double my chances.

Drop shotting is one of my favorites also. I like to use a small octopus hook and a gulp 1″ minnow nose hooked. I may try this strategy with a few of the plastics I bought for ice fishing also…mustache worm etc…Have had good luck off of weed edges with this technique.

Drop shot here also. But, instead of 1 hook, I tie a leader on with a double UNI knot and use the strand that sticks up from the knot to tie on a light wire hook. Then, tie another piece of leader to the longest strand, and tie on a second hook. If you tie the hooks on so they hang about 2 inches from the knot, they stick out away from the line and the fish seem to be able to inhale the bait more easily. Don’t wait to set the hook or the fish will be hooked too deeply.

Search the web for Tattle Tails. I use them almost exclusively for gills adding wax worms when necessary.

I’d like to try drop shotting for panfish this year as well. Might have to give it a shot tomorrow! Getting sick of white bass fishing anyways.

Do you guys like a lot of lead or little lead for bluegills?

What ever it takes to feel bottom with your setup. If trolling or in really deep water you will need more weight.

I catch a lot of them while trolling 3-ways for crappies.

3/16 dropper, 2-3′ leader to a small hook and minnow or small leech. (yes crappies like leeches). Trolled at .4-.8mph.

What kind of structure do you look for this time of year. I went to where we were getting them this winter with no luck
