Couple of nice pan fish I picked up over the weekend in northern Minn. We were perching on Winni but hit another lake one evening.

They only measured a little over 9 but what they lacked in length they made up for in girth.

Those are nice white crappie. You can tell by the bands. They could be a hybrid too.

    Nice fish Thanks for sharing.

That’s what I tell my wife. She appreciates a good joke.

The perch were a little disappointing but we lost 1-2 days to high winds. The guys willing to fish hard still could not put a daily limit on the ice but we got enough for all to take home a couple meals and had a fish fry for 9 guys up there. Highlight of the weekend was poor ole Matt. Drives all the way up there then on his second hole the auger does something and snapped one of his finger IN HALF. I’m still a little shaky even typing it. yuck!!!!

    Ouch!!!

Was the bite slow or just trouble catching better fish?

Nice gills! Care to tell us how deep they were?

It was slow and hard to catch good fish. The first day was a bust. Road closed with wind. They had to rescue the guys that were already out. Second day not much better. That’s when we went after these gills on another lake. Got a few perch and big crappie there as well. I saw our Winni catches compared to many others at Nodaks so I know we were right there in the running but it was still disappointing. Been that way for a few years. We are already talking about skipping Winni next year. It use to be nothing to get 20 jumbos per guy there in a day. Nothing. Now we cant get 20 fish let alone many jumbos.

The ice is so thick drilling holes is a chore and makes it difficult to drill as many holes or move as much as we would have liked. Also we only fished the roads so being mobile with sleds would allow access to lots of otherwise untouched water. I would go again if it was closer.
