Sunday, the call came in, “the crappies & Sunfish are biting.” We couldn’t get to Lake Minnetonka until this morning. We arrived with minnows, waxies, & rain gear. By 9 AM, we had landed our first half dozen crappies. Over the next three hours, we caught about 80 sunnies of varying sizes, and about 70 crappies. There were two bonus Largemouth Bass, both released. We were able to keep enough for a couple of meals, and still managed to get sore arms from hauling in so any fish, and sore legs from bending to try to save the larger crappies. There were four of us ‘old college buddies’. We fished with bobber rigs & small fishing jigs, with the jigs roughly a foot below the bobber. This was in 3-5 fow. The jigs that worked best were fluorescent pink or chartreuse. Orange worked well at times, too. i used small plastic tails colored in a chartreuse on a pink jig. The best of both worlds. It seemed like as it rained more, the fish bit quicker. Several times, the bobber went under immediately. It was cold, but it was one fun day. Needless to say, the other three were full of smart talk & old stories. Some were even true. As I said, it was a great day with old friends.
