I have a question hopefully somebody can help with so I’ve been fishing this small lake in northern Wisconsin and I can’t find the crappie during the day but from dark on I catch them in around 14 feet are they shallower in the day or deeper?

I’d tend to look in deeper water, but maybe even at the same depth, suspending. Seems a lot of waters differ, but even with the stained lakes in N WI, that’s where I would look, but expect that they may be moving more.

If you are catching them at night then i would say its a night bite not day bite. But every lake is different

Super clear water lakes may tend to have a night bite.

Weeds? the primary forage may be a night-time thing and crappies may be pulling into green weeds to hang out during the day. If the lake has weeds and clear water, try looking for the crappies just atop of or tight to the outside edge of the deeper/deepest weeds.

Well it is slightly stained water and during the day every once in a wile we will catch some and the deepest spot we found was twenty feet I’m goingto try finding a deeper weed edge hopefully it works out thanks

Have you ever seen any marks super high in the water column? Possible just under ice, I know it would be a short flash, but some of those could be crappies hanging just out under the ice during the day. I have seen it..not very often may be worth checking.
