large crappie, waldo,…. part two

My favorite of all color combinations for years has been junebug over chartreuse and if that is not available its purple/chartreuse. I just had to play around with the junebug/chartreuse.

The top bait is slightly longer than the hot orange/ambercracker shown in the other post and tapes out to just a hair under 3″. The smaller version still sits at about 2″ and is certainly crappie sized, but big brother falls into that waldo size league.

Both sizes get 3 chartreuse dips and then the junebug goes on by dipping half way thru the bait on the first dip and successively shallower dips on the second and third in that color. The top 1/2 of the tube has six layers of plastic on it and should make it fairly tough and tear resistant. I built a clear tube identical in every way except color, hung it on a jig and tied that to a rod with some 30 pound braid and tried to whip the plastic off….no go. I think these will stand up to a walleye and if they don’t, well I know someone who makes them.

Sweet color combo on the jigs. Are you doing a minnow on those?

The Junebug/Chartreuse color combination has put more fish in my hand in the last 30 years than anoy other color combo. A close second is the purple/chartreuse pattern, then blue/chartreuse and then orange/chartreuse and lastly pink/white.

I make a custom color for some of my jigheads called Almost Blue. It looks purple in one light but blue just by turning it so light hits it different. Instead of the green glitter normally found in Junebug this one has a blue glitter.

That smokey purple transparent found in most all of the junebug’s on the market must have some reflective or contrasting thing that makes it so darned effective all around this area. I’m betting these tubes will flip some waldos just because of the color.

    Thanks for comments guys.

I’ve been looking at the larger of the baits just as it is when it comes off the rod, no tentacles cut. I’m going to do a couple and leave them just like that and fish them on a slip-in head. Just dead stick them over the side of the boat a foot off bottom while drifting.

Somebody mentioned maybe a Firecracker type of color coupled with chartreuse and I did some toying last night and came up with this number.

The clear glitter color has no red in it. Its is the color combination of glitters that I use in my bluegill plastics except I have omitted the copper glitter and violet hi lites. To get more depth from the clear color I also doubled the load of each glitter color. The remaining color show will be heated again and a purple colorant added to see what comes of a purple over chartreuse.

Here are some solid junebug and junebug/chartreuse split colors in panfish sized baits.

Though it will be real challenging, I am going to try a length-wise split color in a pannie tube.
