Large crappie, maybe waldo…

I did some more playing with tubes again today and made up some longer mandrils to dip. These guys are larger than the ordinary crappie tube by quite a bit, so now I’m wondering if maybe they’d work for walleyes later this fall.

Me thinks I’ll work with a few more color options to see what I can come up with.

The two shown here are mounted on 1/8 heads.

Hooks are way too small, but other than that I’m sure it would work great for vertical jigging walleye.

Very nice!!! There’s no doubt in my mind that they would work for walleyes, I can’t find a reason why a walleye wouldn’t inhale one of thoughs. I could also see you looseing a few to some snot rockets too oh I ment pike LOL.

If these get to the river ala walleye, they’ll be riding on 2/0 sickle hooks in 1/8 or 1/4 ball heads without collars. The 1/4 might even see a 3/0. I just put these heads shown in to help keep the tubes from moving around so much for the pic. We had some breeze here when I took the pic and without some weight they were flopping on me.

I like 1/0 sickles on my walleye jigs, bigger than that and I think you get a lot of suck-n-spits. Fish can suck in and spit out a lure if they feel danger in a fraction of a second. If they feel that big piece of metal they spit before you even realize you had a bite. That is unless they turn their head and get hooked in the process.

Very similar to a super-doo look. And the walleye and sauger like them when vertical jigged.
