Been waiting for this for a long time… this small wilderness lake was shown to me a by a very good friend (GF) years ago when we ice fished with my bro-in-law and another good friend. It paved the way to a very nice fish fry for one lucky mother two days later as our trip proved to be a successful one. GF and I attempted this one on the ice a few years ago without much success and recently I found out that a good friend of the big guy in the boat’s wife lived on it and was willing to give us access that fueled the seed to our fishing last night.
We loaded up the trolling motor and battery with my brother’s son and away we went. Emptied the water out of the small row boat and got our gear in and went to it. My heavy rod was one of my ‘eye rods and still had a 3/8 oz. jig on it. I used it as a depth finder and measured the length of the 7′ rod and a stretch of my arms (another 7′) with a little hanging down, so we in 15’ of water literally feet of shore, just off the small pads that ringed the shoreline.
We started by casting tiny cubby mites, hair jigs and CJS shrimpos with waxies for bait. Fish on the first cast and it continued for the rest of the evening. These pics were of honest 8″ and bigger gills plus a bonus 12″, maybe even slightly larger crappie. I don’t think we had any thing that measured to 10″ with the gills, but lots of quality fish. All fish were released on this outing, though our hostess wanted us to keep some fish.
Another of my nephew’s is making it in next week and I only will have one night to fish with him and I am taking him and his friend out there for what I hope is another great night of panfishing. We only hit half of the lake, but I have some spots pegged, plus the other half of the shoreline we didn’t get to. I wouldn’t mind drifting the middle to see what might happen there as well. If we do well, I hope to have some more great smiling kids faces pictured here next Friday!!!
