As hot as it was here I wanted to make use of my day off.. caught a few baitfish and plan to use them Monday for catfish(cutbait). Kept the small ones but some of the bigger ones swallowed the hook..will they survive with hook swallowed?
More then likely they will survive. The hook will eventually rust away unless its stainless.
I caught some bullheads a few weeks ago and one of them was hooked pretty deep so I just cut the line and retied. Two days later the hook was lying at the bottom of the bait tank.
A deep set hook is kind of like an impaled arrow. As long as you just cut the line and leave it, they should be good. Much better than ripping, tearing and pulling their stomach up through their throat.
