A Rare Sighting

I had a partner in the kitchen by 4am ready to go hit the water. The rare sighting is the wife sitting in the front of my boat

Every time she goes she has a great time but it doesn’t happen often.

While the FW was painting her toes, reading a book and taking in the sights on the water, my job was to put a fish fry together. Trolling was the ticket just a few days ago and on this day, the 4th of July, the Original floating Rapala was once again the key to catching keeper size crappies. It started off slow but once the change was made to a #3 Purpledescent bait it didn’t take long to start putting scaled critters on ice.

These fish by no means seem to be stacked up in any certain area and covering water is the only way to keep a bite going.

By 9:30am the sun was starting to cook any victims left out in the open and it was the first complaint that came from the front of the boat

With plenty of filets in the cooler the Merc was taken out of trolling mode and lit up. After a few laps around the lake to blow the carbon out of the motor and to keep the promise of a boat ride, we were loaded up and heading for cover by 10 o’clock. I sure am ready for his heat to go away

Hope everyone else had a great 4th and stayed chilled down!

    Good luck fishing people

That looks a lot like a lake I drive past on my way to the river.

Nice. Have you tested Marianne with an emergency drill in case you get hooks stuck in your fingers?

We are seeing a lot of pre-cooked smallmouth bass on the St. Croix the last few days.

Governor/senators and their megabridge builders got a lot of trophy-sized suckers this year when they took the contractors and the construction unions for a spin.

Believe the state record for a river sucker is… how many inches?

Wonder how the “bite” is out in the tranquil waters in front of the Dayton family shack up on Lake Vermillion? Rumor has it the guv promised to do his best to limit noise pollution in our backyards here along the National Scenic Waterway. (Do river fishermen vote? Maybe they can up the ante on the size of that new St. Croix access the DNR is dangling in front of us for supporting the Supercrossing.)

Be sure to remember your favorite NW Wisconsin realtor and his merry band of speculators this Christmas.

And remember to wave at the derrick operator guys on the muck testing bargesthis summer. Now THERE’s a trolling rig worthy of this water!

Bret, you’re a lucky man wife up at 4 am to go with you. You’ve got her trained well. Nice fish.
