We did the annual family fishing trip last week and this year we went back to South Dakota for some of those Slab Perch and Fat Walleyes. We left Friday morning around 6:00 AM and got to the Motel around 12:30. I was really windy around 20 to 25 with gusts in the 30’s.

My cousin said lets go we did not come out here to sit and drink all day. So we headed out to the bait shop for our licenses and some crawlers. There were some good white caps rolling but not real bad. We unloaded the boats and headed out. Fishing was tough and we managed a few Perch and Walleyes before it got really rough and we decided to call it quits.

On the way back to the landing as we got close the boat came off the top of one wave and speared the next taking it right over the top of us, talk about a bath!!! The next wave did the same and broke the drivers side Plexiglas windshield on my cousins 620 Ranger. There went $140 down the tube!!

The following 3 days were a little better, it rained off and on each day and was a little windy but not too bad at all. We caught all the fish that we wanted to eat and had a few left to bring home.

The perch in the one picture are laying next to some 16 to 18″ Walleyes just to give you an idea of what pigs they were.

Waubay or down by Lake Thompson? Either way looks like an awesome fish fry!

We stayed in Waubay and fished Bitter Lake. We drifted with Bottom Bouncers using crawlers in 20 to 30 ft of water. Had to use 2 drift socks or the kicker in reverse to slow us down enough with the wind and waves.

We did get some card playing and a little Crown Royal in on Friday after getting blown off.
