Rather than fight the crowds on opener at Big Round in Polk county I stayed at our cabin on Big Blake Lake where we chased crappies. We found them in 8 feet of water on the southern most end of the lake. A strange place for this lake this early, but in about 2 hours we caught 100+ on 1/16 oz. jigs tipped with a 2 inch yellow Exude twister tail. Cast and retrieve very slow. All you would feel when they hit was weight. A light hook set and the fight was on. They varied in size from small to about 12 inches. We kept these 30 at around 9 inches to send home with my fishing partner, my daughter, and dropped a few off with my parents who don’t get out as often as they would like. My bet is this is working for others as well so probably no new information, but just sharing in the fun we had.
Good luck Minnesotans this weekend.
