I’ve heard rumors of guys Ice-fishing in backwater sloughs and such. Anyone been out or tested the ice yet?

I was down your way this morning. Fished near the airport. The ice there was good, but only in a small area. Caught quite a few bluegills. Looked at a few other areas, but nothing else seemed to have good ice.
I have been fishing near Wabasha at a couple spots and doing well on the panfish. Hopefully we will get some cold weather to make all the good areas fishable soon!

    Good Fishing,

Yes, that’s the spot. Ice was 2 inches. There were about 10 people out there fishing.

2″ inches?? Aren’t you a little scared at 2″inches??…I know the water back there like my own house, and it isn’t deep in spots, but i don’t think 2″ could hold my fat a$$…..

Yes, 2 inches is not much! It was a solid 2 inches and was not cracking at all. I pack 275 lbs. with my gear, so I suspect most people would be OK if they are careful and make sure they don’t blaze any new trails.

    Good Fishing,

Glad to hear the ice is forming. Let it move south! I’m ready to hit pool 13 in full force this winter!

There is a good 5-6″ back on fisherman’s road on Lake Onalaska….There were also some people below the Onalaska Spillway fishing some back bays…I talked to a few anglers on Saturday. There were getting some good fish and I saw some nice slabs on the ice next to them. Saw them fishing w/typical ice jigs and waxies…

Talked to some others fishing tip-ups for northerns…they said they had been there for hours and no flags had gone up.

One man fell through the ice while fishing w/his 5yr? old son out by Brice Praire. He got out right away but please BE CAREFUL!! Not sure where they were exactly but it was near some of the underground springs…so be carefull if you are up that way….

I’m gonna head out this week..hopefully i’ll have some more detailed info.

The lake did produce some very nice gills and perch this weekend. But I already told that story on the Onalaske thread so I won’t bore anybody again, LOL. I wonder if the person who fell through was at Black Deer. That is a great place, but can be treacherous early. I have been holding off to head over there with the tip-ups till a little later. I also had no luck with tipups on the lake. Come on weekend!!!

went to Black Deer on sunday, nothing for me but small ones, yes I could see where someone broke through the ice, insteadt of walking the land they walked the edge, that spot is always last to freeze. 3 inchesn of ice, but water was not very clear, kinda milky. John
