Crappie action was HOT last Saturday AM! With a monster front packing a shot of winter bearing down on the Coulee region the black specs were as aggressive as a late May spawn bite. I used a variety of Flu Flu color patterns from Custom Jigs & Spins. The attacks on one color were just as severe as the next. If I were able to go crappie fishing today – I’d give the glow pink the starting nod. One of the best panfish jigs a person can buy for a buck! One of two PROBLEMS I had was the 10 to 12 bucket mouths intercepting the offering before a papermouth! All though with ultralight tackle these guys put up a pole-bender battle that was fun to tango with. The other PROBLEM was the size. 8 to 9 incher papermouths ALL morning long. Definately a quantity bite. Bass were hitting more towards the top of the water column. Crappie were a little deeper in their usual 4 to 5 foot fall range. Brought home 8 for a couple of sandwichs. Tossed back countless others.
