The Crappies are starting to show up in the Pool 7 backwaters. I’ve not seen a lot of keepers, but the ones we are seeing have been monsters. We had roughly 5 keeper(over 10″) Crappies for an afternoon. 2 of them are pictured here. I was using plastics while my Mom & Dad caught those big Crappies on a plain hook & minnow.

The snags are absolutely LOADED with 3-6″ Bluegills right now. With a good pair of polarized glasses you can see them as they approach your baits. The bigger ‘gills are still on the dams, but I expect that to change very soon. Hopefully the bigger fish will run the smaller ones back to their wintering areas.

It’s so bad, it was difficult to catch the Crappies as those smaller ‘gills found our minnows too much to resist. I found myself looking for the bigger Crappie minnows just to the deter the little ‘gills from picking my minnow apart.

The bite should only get better from here on out.

    Good luck fishing.
