There are still some good males on the beds and a few smaller females dumping eggs. I had a chance to get my Dad out while visiting from Florida to put a fish fry together for him. The trick for us was to slowly move around the shallow areas (1-2fow) casting around looking for fish.

We ended up catching at least 50 some fish in 2 hours and only kept 10 nice sized males releasing everything else.

Dad was using a chunk of crawler and I held my own with a small chartreuse jig and white wedge from custom jigs and spins.

It also didn’t hurt to have a floating rapala handy to toss out. There are some nice bass harassing the spawning gills giving themselves away smacking the bobbers. A quick pitch and 2 twitches is all it would take to make the green fish hit with an explosion on the surface.

The gill pic is one of the nice males that found its way into the cooler.

If you notice in the bass picture, I’m not all the way out of the closet and exposing myself, but it is getting close

The last picture is my father keeping a close on his bobber. When hit you wanted to set the hook immediately to keep feisty gills from hurting themselves with a swallowed hook.

It was a blast being in the boat with Dad again. I hope to get him out one more time before he heads home to chase some crappies

    Good luck fishing people
