I hit a local lake just to say I made it out for the opener And that’s all that can be said about the day

Cold rain and sleet with a stiff wind brought back memory’s………of every other opening day I fished

One snot rocket and a short eye both taking a #12 Fire Tiger Husky Bait trolled 60 feet behind the boat did put a bend in the rod to save the day

Today (Sunday) a run was made for pool 8 and the target was to be crappies. The Merc was fired up by 5:30am and the trip to a bay with the Southwest wind blowing into it was made in short order.

After checking out a few wood piles and only one hit to show for it, a move was made to the top of a flat. The edge comes up steep from 20fow to 10 feet. I placed a marker buoy right on the drop and anchored up in 10fow 20-30 yards away and found action.

The size was a mix of 8 – 11 inch fish with a couple at 12 found. The cast was made just past the edge I had mark and worked back towards the boat. A Glow Mini Mite just at the edge being twitched under a slip bobber at 10 feet was more than the specks could handle. The plastic caught 10 – 1 fish over a live minnow, however the plastic was being worked harder

A dozen fish made the trip back to Sparta with around 30 some fish being caught in a couple hours time. The wind is still a pain but the sun was nice to see …..guess it’s not gonna last long though

Hope everyone had and is having a great weekend!

    Good luck fishing people
