Was just wondering if anyone does any fishing on pool 7 from Trempealeau,Wi to Dresbach and if anything is biting there. Headed that way this weekend and going to try it out.
Thought I would report on my trip to pool 7 even though no one else seems to fish this pool. Fishing was a bit tough on Saturday with the 15 mph NW winds but we caught alot of slabs. WE brought home 33 crappies and 10 gills. Crappies ran from 10-13″ with 5 being over 13″ Was fun but the wind sure took it out of me
Glad to hear you did well. I wouldn’t exactly say no one fishes this pool though. Most of the crappie action takes place on the lake. Although, the sloughs can be fantastic at times. There used to be lots of people that fish crappies on 7 but recently(last few years) it’s been pretty quiet. Do you care to share any tactics?
Tried the backwaters for a brief time early Saturday on pool 7. Did quite well, the crappies were in 10-13 foot of water and best depth for catching seemed to be 6-8 feet. Slip bobber and large minnows were the ticket.
best luck for me was just using a minnow about 6 feet under a bobber in about 8-10 ft. of water. Gills came in about 4 foot of water fishing about 2 foot deep with crawlers.
Got a chance to run up to pool seven again at Trempealeau,Wi. with my grandpa and cousin for some more panfishing and boy was it fun. We hammered them We got 66 crappie and limited out on bluegills. What a beautiful day to be out on the water.
Just would like to thank the Great Caledonian Blue Fleck for introducing me to some fine Bluegill fishing. MossBoss was there too , and between the 3 of us, EASILY caught 200+ ‘gills …..one after another for a few hours. MossBoss had the pleasure of landing a 10″ gill. MONSTER FISH!! Lots of medium fish, and we kept nothing smaller than @8″…As a matter of fact….they’re almost done now ….Sorry guys, can’t reveal this place, i was told i would be killed (the infamous whistle) Will tell ya we were using ice jigs w/waxies and red worms. Worms were working better i think…..thanks BF you get 2 thumbs up!!
Yep, the gills were on fire. You know they are biting when you are there an hour before you can even get the beer open, and you can hardly drink it becuase you’re too busy reeling in and casting out!! Not to mention, measuring fish!!
