I went down to Wabasha today and spent the afternoon fishing gills. What a change from yesterday, the weight of the snow will have you fishing in about 3 inches of water. The good news is you will have about 3 inches of ice under the slush. The marina was slow today and not being able to read the ice made it difficult to move around. Wilcox looks a little shady and you have deep water to deal with there, I would suggest a spud and travel at your own risk. I was able to find some nice gills after some searching some quiet areas. I really notice on early ice the importance of being quiet especially in shallow water. The fish hit everything I threw at them from waxies to artificials, I wasn’t seeing the size I normally do on first ice but you could get some decent fish if you sorted through them. I got eluded by some nice crappies today, I think I needed to get the rust off my rods and get my cold weather hands in shape so next week I get them on ice.
Tight Lines,
