Made it out yesterday with my buddy troy and hit the blackriver first thing in the morning. Picked about ten crappies right away on slib bobbers, biggest on the black was ten inches. We then decided to hit the miss. Fished a backchannel with many fallen trees. Most of our fish came on sweeedish pimples tiped with a minnow head in ten to twelve feet of water. We had to move from tree to tree as the action would come and go. Most fish would hit the pimple on a pause after jigging it. It was a good day with about fifty crappies making it into the boat only keeping enough for a meal. I can only show one picture of a place where everybody knows about but the others cannot be shown as they will show to much information…

You can even see the other secret ice fishing spot behind ya

You mean that same secret ice fishing spot that’s easily seen from the Interstate?

Is there much for trophy potential on Pool 8? Ive been targeting crappies for the last few years on pool 4. Seems to be mostly 10 inchers with a rare 12-14″. Have yet to crack the 15″ mark. Whats the biggest crappie anyone has caught or witnessed on the river, any pool? Ive personally had better luck trophy hunting on good lakes. Seems like the river would be ideal to grow them bigger however…Anybody have any thoughts?

Have you ever tried power pro or fireline for crappies in the wood? Seems like not many have but its tougher than mono in those areas. For mono I always use the XT Berkley as I feel the regular mono is not strong enough.

    Thanks, Bill

ps. Keep those crappie reports coming as I really enjoy reading them. I’ve always had a passion for catching crappies. I got away from it for many many years chasing walleyes but now with covering the Rochester Area I’ve gotten back into it. Plus having 9 grandkids [became a granda the first time at 40 and with 4 kids it doesn’t take long, lol] I want to get and keep them into fishing so I’m back at fishing for panfish more than walleyes it seems. Still get out for the eyes but thats on pool 4 where we already have alot of reporters. Keep them crappie reports coming!
    Thanks, Bill

I use PowerPro for wood. Does a good job and anytime i snag up i can usually pull the hook straight and get my jig back. By the way Pepin is still putting out nice crappies along the rip-rap
