I’m new to IDA and recently have bought property on Pool 9.
In addition to fishing for walleye and bass, I enjoy
fishing for panfish, particularly with flyrod. As I am
trying to learn the areas to hit, I did some backwater
exploring recently, mainly below the bridge at Lansing, looking for some quiet areas that might hold fish and
spawning areas. Seems every lake or quiet backwater area
was too shallow and muddy to get into. Any help on identifying deeper backwater areas would help.

Desoto bay is pretty good, cold springs on the lower end is pretty good. The running sloughs around there all hold crappies in the tree tops. If you get out just before dark you can get into white bass big time just about anywhere. A little popper or streamer can provide some great action on those. Fish the groups that are busting shad to the surface.

Thanks alot, that should get me started. I remember
fishing some in DeSoto Bay a long time ago when
I was still in grade school.
