By no means are these pool 8 slab size, but I was able to weed out a dozen 9.5 – 10 inch crappies Friday after work, to make a snack for Saturdays Lunch After a few moves I found a nice school hanging around in 14fow just out side of some current and tight to the bank. This area also has some submerged trees and over hanging trees in the water.
The crappies fell prey to a Chartreuse Swedish Pimple tipped with a minnow head. Out of 20 some fish, only 2 hit a minnow on a #10 hook under a slip bobber. The bite was coming at 10 feet straight over the boat. Snap up a foot let it fall and rest a few seconds, repeat until you get smacked Best time was from 6:30pm – 7:30pm.
There are also White Bass being caught everywhere you look. Wing Dams, sand points and flats are producing fish for everyone looking for them.
I found a non-existent walleye bite after dark Might be time to start playing with the cats

    Good Luck Fishing!

Great report Bret They may not be huge slabs, but they are definitely respectable sized crappies Of course you know how I feel about those Swedish Pimples I may have to join you soon for a little panfish action

It’s getting warm enough now for my son to go with me in the boat to catch a few fish. What would be a safe bet to put a kid on fish?

    Thanks,

Nice crappies Bret. Both you and Mike sure seem to be having fun down there on pool 8. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks, Bill

Will-eye – I took a friend out on lake onalaska yesterday evening and ran out of minnows. With a nice crappie chop, we were floating minnows at about 4 feet deep in 15 – 20 feet of water. They’re staging now but will be moving to the shallows soon. Most fish were 9 or 10 inches but fun for a kid (or adult) for sure.

Sounds like fun was had by all Dave

With the temps staying cool at night, this rain and cloudy days ahead, I think they are going to stay put (staging)a bit before they make a big move shallow. Sounds like we are on the same school for size The bigger crappies will be fun to catch and should start becoming more aggressive soon.
    Good luck to all

PS: Another thing not to ignore on pool 8 is the back side of wing dams holding deep water (scour holes) near shore with an eddy I don’t waist a lot of time in a spot that looks good if it does not produce bits either A swedish Pimple is a great searching jig!

Bret, thanks for the advice. A long pre-spawn would be fine with me. When the big crappies start showing up I’ll probably start fishing a lake closer to West Salem.

Thanks for the info Dave. Hopefully the weather will be decent this weekend so I can get my boy out on the water. He’s bored with practicing casting off the back deck of the house!

There is still a good bite going on with Swedish Pimples They did however move up the shelf a bit. Most of the keepers were coming out of 8-9fow. The surface temp was 63 degrees and the bit was a little faster. The sheephead were hitting also which makes for fun on ultra-lite tackle

I don’t remember the number off hand. Here it is along a quarter so you have something to compare it to. Hope that helps.
