Anybody been fishing the Mississippi River backwaters between Wabasha and Nelson? Haven’t been down there for awhile and kinda homesick for it. Those backwaters are alot of fun to fish during open water too.
    Thanks, Bill

Fished long walk today …thats all i have to say. But quite a few people fishing the dike road as usual. Fishing should pick up when we start to melt some of this snow and ice

Thought I would bump this old thread. I was wondering how the fishing has been on the long walk this year? I may head out there Sunday. I’m curious how the panfish have been running this year as far as size and if the pike are in there? Thanks for any info and I will post how I did if I get out.

Was out today from 9am-4. Only around ten people on the ice. Panfish are around but not in great numbers and size seems a little down for the gills. Kept a handful and threw quite a few back…mostly bluegills but a few perch too. Had tip-ups in all day…one 28″ pike in the first 15 minutes and that was all. Overall quite slow.

Near the long walk, have the springs along the tracks produced anything?

Went to long walk this morning and was really slow. I ended up catching 3 sunfish and missed one big perch in an hour and half. There were about 6 other guys out there moving around all morning looking for fish.

Thanks Boone, based on that I think I’ll focus more south of Fountain City. Mike

I should mention when I came back through alma on the south side I would bet there were 30 vechiles along the highway and in the little wayside. Im pretty sure you know where i’m talking. I’m sure they have them all caught out by now but who knows.

Yeah, no right where that is at. I heard small ones though… Fished 3rd Lake today, lots of fish, but had to weed thru 100 for a nice limit of keepers. Overall very finicky. How about North of Alma by the Buffalo?

Im not sure where your talking about. The farthest i’ve traveled up the river to ice fish is the long walk. So im not sure where abouts your talking about.

Just north of Alma where you turn to head to Mondovi. Not sure of the park name…Rieck?

Was on the long walk today. Tip-ups and jigging…both bad. Bad weather to be fishing in, but you have to go when you have the chance right? Had a camera in the water all day. Not a lot of fish around in general. Saw more bass than bluegills till late in the afternoon. Got set up on some good looking gills later but most were un-cooperative.
