I decided to make the run down south yesterday and fish with my cousin Tim Moenck and fishing buddy Jeremy Shultze. I was expecting a tough bite no matter where I went. I was on the ice at 7 A.M., in late afternoon we had figured out a pattern and proceeded to knock the gills and of course got a couple of nice crappies to boot on a day that wasn’t looking very promising. I brought a shack yesterday so I could watch how the fish react in a severe temp drop, the fish were loaded up and moving but they would just bump the bait and swim away. We moved extremely shallow in about 2 ft. of water or less and upsized the baits and saw immediate results. If you thought you were using too big of jigs, then go the next size bigger and work the water column from the top of you hole to the bottom of the river. Many of these active fish would hit in the hole and break water. I also had a friendly dogfish that kept me company yesterday popping his head in my hole about every 1/2 hour.
