The condition of the river is its pretty tame by most folks standards. It’s come up a chunk in the last week but no real big deal if you keep your eyes peeled for the floating deadheads that are just part of the deal in the spring on the river.
The really good news for you is that the whitebass are just thick up near the dam right now. I like catching a few now and then but they are really thick. To the point of being annoying if you’re looking to pull a walleye or two off of these same areas. Plastics, hair jigs, double jig rigs with minnows, it’ll all work. I’d advise just forgetting the minnows altogether as the re-baiting costs you fish when the whitebass will hit just about anything you throw in front of them. In fact, pinch your barbs down, I do if I’m targeting them intentionally, and it will make the chore of securing the fish for hook removal a lickety split quick deal and save on your hands and fingers as these little buggers have some nasty sharp gill plates that get me prety good from time to time.
