The kids and I got out on the lake this afternoon in hopes of finding some good gill action. I had heard from co-workers that the fall run was starting to heat up so I figured this was a great time to hit the water with the kids. The fishing wasn’t spectacular yet, but we still had a great time. The bite was very sporadic, when a school came through they would hammer whatever you had down there. We had a lot of small ones mixed in with some nice bull gills. Presentation was pretty basic; a small baitholder hook and a split shot fished about 6″ up from the bottom. We had the best luck in the deeper channels on the lake with water depths around 10-12′ mixed with a weedy bottom. Small chunks of crawler as well as waxies both brought fish to the boat. The kids had a blast and I had a relaxing time watching them catch quite a few fish.

Took the kids out this morning, still going but the bigger fish were closer to the weedlines for us. Wax worms on ice jigs.

Nice fish. Theres nothing like catching big gills on light tackle to bring out the ”little kid” in all of us. Lots of FUN. Thanks for the report and pics.
    Thanks, Bill

Sounds like a great time Wats. There’s nothing more fun than watching kids have a great time fishing.
