The kids and I got out on the lake this afternoon in hopes of finding some good gill action. I had heard from co-workers that the fall run was starting to heat up so I figured this was a great time to hit the water with the kids. The fishing wasn’t spectacular yet, but we still had a great time. The bite was very sporadic, when a school came through they would hammer whatever you had down there. We had a lot of small ones mixed in with some nice bull gills. Presentation was pretty basic; a small baitholder hook and a split shot fished about 6″ up from the bottom. We had the best luck in the deeper channels on the lake with water depths around 10-12′ mixed with a weedy bottom. Small chunks of crawler as well as waxies both brought fish to the boat. The kids had a blast and I had a relaxing time watching them catch quite a few fish.
