There are still nice gills falling victim to a 1/32oz jig tipped with a crawler on the wing dams. The wing dams with good current flow over the top seem to be holding the nicer sized gills. There were even a few nice crappies that found there way to the boat today.

I had my jig hanging under a slip bobber just to keep it above the rocks. Most fish came of the top and above the wing dams. Don’t waste too much time sitting on one wing dam. If you are not getting action within the first 15 minutes move!!!!
The majority of the gills today were in the 8-8.5 inch class. It was not bad on the water this morning with a nice breeze blowing and a good cloud cover.

Good luck on the water people

went out with a good friend of mine last nite hoping to get a few gills. We were not disappointed. Had the river to ouselves for the most part, not many others out at all. Started and ended with just a split shot and piece of crawler for bait. Caught some really nice sized gills with the biggest just under 10 inches. The rest were in the 8-8.5 inch mark. For a short time we would just get some small ones and then all of a sudden, bang the bigger fish were there. So after we decided to call it a nite, we had 19 fish between the two of us that went home for the pan. Had a great time with some good company, so doesn’t get much better thaqn that. good luck fishing.–John

    Way to go John!
The river traffic has been slowing down making it nicer to anchor up. Glad you got into em John

ditto for me Wednesday on Pool 5. Tons of gills in mixed sizes off a short Wing Dam. I decided to release hoping to catch enough large ones for a few meals the following day. However, with the rain and east wind it didn’t work out quite as well. Nonethless, my hunch is they are still out on the dams.

I have found on pool 8, one day the bigger gills will be right on top on the shore end and then the next day in the front of the rock. It pays to work the winggies back and forth. You will know soon if there are bigger gills or just a smaller class

I will also say, the majority of the fish here, are also hangin’ on the wing dams!

Good Luck this weekend guys and gals

Bret, have you been catching alot of smallmouth too? I am catching from 10-20 each time out. Now they aren’t very big, but it seems there will be plenty in the years to come. John

We have been getting a lot of smallies in the 10 – 13 inch mark on almost every wing dam, Mooneyes also. Mike C did however take this beauty 18” smallmouth with his ultra light. It was a lot of fun just to watch him fight this thing. I was surprised he caught it, he didn’t have a Batman pole

VERY nice smallie. Bet that was FUN on an ultralight.
    Thanks, Bill
