Finally got a chance to do some fishing on Friday. Went out of the Ferry Landing at Galena and fished the deep cuts that contained a fair amount of current. The fish were definitely hitting! We caught eight different species of fish. Some very nice bass [smallmouth and largemouth], sheephead, and catfish but the bluegills were fantastic. We stopped keeping the gills when we hit 24 and released many nice gills in the 7,8, and 9 inch size. They are a blast to catch and with the current were a challenge to land! If gills ever grew to four pounds I don’t think you would be able to get them in the boat. Just used a piece of crawler, 1/2 ounce lead weight, and a gold hook. Looking forward to getting out this week again. I was really impressed with the water clarity. You could see down about two feet which was unheard of years ago on the “muddy Mississippi.” Hope the bite continues.
