I took dad out for a bit this morning and we did very well on bluegills. We kept 15 dandies for him and mom. None were 10″, but were very nice. We had quite a few crappies, but all were released, as ACL is C&R for crappies until June 15th. I had a 30″ or so northern grab a gill. I knew I should have pulled that anchor. He wrapped me around it and got off. The lake is very clear and the temp is 60-61 degrees. Of course, we also had more bass than I can count, but they are still fun.
We used slip bobbers and #8 aberdeen hooks with leeches, crickets and super meal worms. All caught fish, but the leeches and crickets worked best.
For bluegills, I really like a long shanked hook, in size 8. It is easier to remove the hook, if it has a long shank.
No pictures as I left the camera at my trailer. I’m off to take care of a few thing sbefore I head back out.
