It shouldn’t be ice out right now, but in a lot of areas, it certainly is. Although there is good ice in places, i want to change things up a bit and get out in the boat for some crappies, gills, and perch. I have some areas already picked out for the job, i just need to know what to look for as far as depth is concerned and what to use. i wish i had my flasher ready to go on my boat, but i need to buy a different transducer for that first. will these fish be in the same areas as they would be if there was ice or am i missing something valuable? I figure they are biting through the ice, so i don’t see why they wouldn’t if i was in the boat. thanks for the help.

I’d say just hit the spots you would hit if there was ice. IMO until there is some real warm sunny weather for an extended period the fish should still be in their winter haunts. Check water temps and if an area is warmer the fish should be there. I really doubt that that is happening yet. But you never know. Good luck!
