Just got home after trying upper pool 4 for panfish in the back waters. There’s so much junk floating down the river it looks like booya. Not to mention the current. You have to zig and zag all over to avoid a colliding with logs and the occasional pickup truck sized stump.
After 2 hours of loosing tackle with only 1 small hit on a minnow, I’m done.
I think I’m packing the boat away for the year and get the hard water gear out and tuned-up, unless someone can talk me out of it.
Is the water supposed to go down in the next 2-3 weeks?

I’m not sure if your fishing for panfish only but if you are willing to go for walleyes there is some being caught. there was 5 walleyes caught that weighed 30 lbs and that was on sat. so i know there are fish out there and biting. if it was me i wouldnt throw the towel in quite yet. my $0.02.

OR..do like I do, and don’t give up, just switch to duck hunting for awhile. I’ll be back after the fish as soon as I kill all the ducks and deer I need for winter.

Thinks there is alot of junk on p4..you should be down here on 8.

What the water conditions are right now is just normal when the water is as high as it is right now. Bringing myself to accept that I have decided to fish Lake Zumbro this weekend. Or in your case fish another body of water near you or hunt if you are a hunter. Then when things clear up on the water then hit your favorite river. Winter is not here yet so I’m going to enjoy some good fall fishing.
    Thanks, Bill

Have you tried Pepin down around Long Pt. and Maiden Rock? Word is the crappies have been biting pretty good down there.

Saturday the Crappies were biting very well on pool 8. A mixture of plastics & minnows. We had 23 in the box and caught probably close to 70. Our biggest was 11.5″.

It sure was fun flipping plastics and minnows on cane poles for Crappies.

Sounds like a hoot Blue. I can’t remember the last time I used a cane pole
