    Fishing Fun with Fishing Machine:

Had the pleasure of sharing the boat with my favorite gal Fishing Machine. We met up at Winnishienk Landing and were on the water by 9:00 a.m. and the mission was to go after some crappies which was fine by me because I haven’t been crappie fishing in years. So right off the bat Fishing Machine is into the crappies already. Me, my first fish of the day was a gar. As I get it up to the boat, she yell’s “oh, a darn (censored) gar. “A gar, yippy!! ” I was a kid in a candy store – I never caught a gar before so I was happy. The crappy bite was off as soon as it was on and so we just putted around until the magic evening bite. Then this is where Fishing Machine really turned on the heat. Not only did she get into the crappies, but a really nice northern too. Want to see what it looked like? Sorry, you won’t get the chance, the net girl was late on the net (sorry Fishing Machine) before it snapped the line – sorry Briank, one less you’ll have in the pickle jar. Oh and speaking of Briank’s pickled northern – I got to try some – YUMMY.

All in all, it was a great day to be on the water. We had a few crappies (yes, I even caught some) and a couple HUGE bluegills to come home with. We had many hits and misses during the day but it’s just the beginning of the season – should only get better from here

Well, if I could get there in a half hour…I would have cleaned your fish…and I would have eaten 11 crappies and 2 gills…

Might not have been enough for the both of you.

Mary? Did you get to see the northern at all?

Cheri’s personal best gar! It was a good day fishing!

Yes I did get a look at the northern. Had it to the top of the water after playing it. Cheri already had the net in the water and the fish was facing the net. But things happened so fast. Don’t remember for sure how it happened. But the fish saw the net and it was gone cut my line. And good by northern. I had one on when I was there on Saturday also. But I never got it up to see it.

Thanks Dave. It is so much fun to fish them crappies. But also get a lot of snags, lose a lot of hooks etc. Cheri could have gotten a lot of shots of me yesterday when I was trying to get off some of the snags. I’d hear her say “now be care Mary don’t fall in” So many snags I don’t think I’d have gone down very far

Ya, I think if I would have token a pic for every snag and a pic of every crappie, there would be more then crappies

Hey, Mary, from one snag crappie fisherman to another….here’s to ya. Gotta love retying hooks all day. But when the bite is on…..yeah, baby!! Do you ever try DeSoto Bay? I spent one summer catching more crappies than I could count by the rip rap.

Yep, I can relate, I spent 4 hours one Saturday afternoon recently, I know I retied more than I set hooks. My Brother-in-law was in boat with me, fishing not 2 ft away, and his catch ratio was at least 7 to 1 over mine. He snagged a few times, but I think I could have created an Eagle Claw stock increase all on my own. He did say those fateful words
“don’t fall in back there” several times. No confidence

Juggs, I have fished DeSoto Bay for blue gills. But yet to find any crappies there.

Dave I was using a few of those choice words believe me. But that is where the fish are.
Wanted to go out this afternoon again. But has been threatening storms here off and on. Don’t like being on the river if there is lightning. Rain doesn’t bother me. Not that sweet that I will melt

    Mary,
I know what you mean, rain I can deal with, kind of, but lightning – NOPE. Storms bug me on the water, but at least it’s better than being stuck in the office

I have relates coming for what looks to be a warm, sunny weekend, but I need to be fishing

The crappies are there, believe me. I know there is some deeper submerged timber somewhere in the bay but have never found it. The ice fisherman do well on the crappies. Autumn should be a decent time to find them there.
