Even though this thread has been posted under the Panfish Forum under Mississippi River Forums its still a forum where we can talk panfishing no matter where we catch em as ALOT of presentations will work on most bodies of water.

What are your favorite panfish rods?

    Thanks, Bill

I like my Richard Williams Crappie Wizzard rods. I love the 7’6″ one for casting jigs and the 12′ rod is great for trolling. Pretty reasonalbe to, you can get them off crappiestuff.com.

If im wading a creek that has overhanging limbs i use a shorter ultra light with no more than 6 pound line. If im out in the river i use a 6′ or longer rod to get distance. It also depends on the size or lure im using. I fish the same size jigs and live bait almost all of the time so i use 2 diffrent length rods. The most i’ll do is change line size.

I had to amend my post from earlier because I checked my actual rod and it is the 5′ Avid UL that I use. It is a really nice rod, but I still wish they would make it in the Elite Series. That would be one sweet panfish rod

I use a 5′ St. Croix Avid series ultralight. It’s a great rod for panfish. My wife gave it to me for my birthday.

And a quick story – My wife bought it at Gander and when she was checking out the young woman behind the register said….

“Wow that’s a lot of money for such a flimsey rod!”

My favorite rod is a 6’6” avid ultralite fast action. I have a couple of these set up with symetre’s. Makes for one awesome panfish setup.

I like my 9′ UL custom St. Croix. It casts small jigs a long ways. Hook sets are easy with a slight move of the rod. Big fish tire themselves out because the rod acts like a shock absorber.

The blank is a St. Croix avid 3 weight. Normally used for fly rods.

I like the St. Croix Avid 6 ft. 6” med-light when fishing near wood and also the 6ft. 6” light action St. Croix Avids for casting and slip bobbering. Gotta love them St. Croixs.

In fact, Hooked On Fishing in Rochester has a 20% off sale on Custom made St. Croix that Mike has in stock in the store right now. Sale is this week only. Also 20% off Okuma reels too. Just click on the Hooked On Fishing red words in my signature to go to their website.

    Thanks, Bill

I’m amazed at how many good things I hear about St. Croix. I bought one in my lifetime, a 4′ 6″ UL and it was the worst money I ever spent on a rod, especially considering it was $100. Dang thing broke three times on me under normal usage and I had to pay the shipping to and fro every time to get a new one. Never again.
