Fished the backwaters in the La Crosse area yesterday. The crappie action is just starting, small fish, but none the less a sign of better things to come. 5 hours of fishing produced 30 + bluegill and crappie from 7 to 10 inches. All released. Crappies came on slip bobber and minnow, gills on ice jigs and wax worms. Water surface temp was 68.5, needs to cool down a bit to bring on the crappie bite. 1 to 2 more weeks should be prime time.
