I have a lake we own land around and no one else can access it, it’s amazing on panfish in the summer and winter but I can’t find them early ice like this. How deep might they be? They aren’t in the 21′ basin which is also the deepest point in the lake. They aren’t up on the edge of the weeds or in the weeds, nothing at 10 to 15, I’m starting to think they all hide until mid winter… Any tips or ideas for me? Thanks in advance

Id start in the hole in the weedy bay farthest to the east, else the end of the nipple of deep water that extends into that same bay.

For panfish on a small lake like that I’d be heading right to where the drop-off is steepest….right there at the top of the lake, then fish my way around to the right trying to stay where the gradient is the steepest. The deep basin may work for me too if the weather has been real consistent for a string of days and I’d also look to the deep flat after dark for crappies.

You should find a load of fish where the steepest drop off and the deep flat merge, but the feeding fish will be suspended along that steep drop and more than likely well away from the bottom.

Well according to my onyx hunting app It measures to be 58 acres. It’s a small lake!

Ding Ding Ding!!! We’ve got a winner here! I tried just left of the island and drilled all the way out into the deeper water and worked my way shallow to deep and ended up in 20ft of water finding sunnies hugging close to the bottom. A lot of work to get them to bite but I ended up with about 15!
