I am building a panfish hole hopping rod. Got a black painted blank from sportsmans direct. I sanded the tip section to a spring bobber like tip that I want. Now I want to paint that tip section a bright orange. Any one done this? What kinda paint do I use? Need something that will be able to flex with the rod.
    Thanks for any help.

Krylon Fusion is made toflex. Not sure if they make a bright orange. The orange I got looks light brown when I painted a black blank. Check your Ace hardware.

I did 2 rods(glass)this year, and painted them black.I left the last 2 1/2″ bare, and used a neon Sharpie to color it orange. Then I clear-coated over it with acrylic lacquer.Just a light coat will do.Very surprised on how well it worked.Only use automotive paint, tried acrylic enamel and it sucked.Anything oil-based gets a pass.

Spray paint for rc car bodies works well too. You can usually find them in fluorescent colors. If you have a hobby shop in your area go check em out. Tamiya and Testors are good brands.

If you plan on wrapping guides over the painted tip section, wait about a week after painting for the paint to cure and harden so your thread doesn’t dig into it. It also needs time to cure so that if you put a rod finish (urethane) over the painted tip, the rod finish won’t dissolve the paint. Then you’d have to sand it all off and start over. That also applies if you paint the entire rod and apply finish afterwards.

    Do you use a primer?

Use of a white primer always helps the topcoat color look better over a dark base like black.
