Packers win?

To give a little more info onto what Crappie brought up and Pug followed up on…….

In the timeframe Crappie mentioned the Department of Defense as well as individual service branches paid lots of money to different sports entities for things like flyovers, sponsorships, etc. Obviously at the time there were two Middle Eastern wars going on and the military needed to keep a pipeline of recruits going to meet the demand of these wars. So the groups I mentioned paid for things like I mentioned, including (if I remember right) the Army and National Guard each sponsering a racecar.

A few years ago the public was made more aware of the money spent for this, and several members of Congress got involved and questioned/criticized the use of taxpayer/defense money for these things, and I believe after that the spending was either curtailed or eliminated.

And there it is Dutch, he played the race card coffee coffee coffee

Does talking about race make you uncomfortable? These peaceful protests started BECAUSE of racial issues.

I can’t help it that everyone else can’t understand that and somehow thinks people are disrespecting the military.

    Hint: they aren’t.

2nd Hint: I don’t think you understand what playing the race card means.

I think we’re at the point where folks maybe need to agree to disagree on this matter. If I remember right a thread regarding Colin Kaepernick went 7+ pages last year before being shut down, and now this one is having its day in the sun.

What a lot of people either don’t realize or don’t want to admit is that this is a broad, complex issue with valid arguments, concerns, and thoughts on both sides.

What’s really going to happen if this keeps getting discussed on this site? Are all the different people and views on this site going to come together and agree? Or is this going to go back and forth over and over until a thread gets shut down, only for the topic to pop up again somewhere else.

Again, there’s a lot of complexities to this issue, I personally understand and agree with portions of both sides on this topic, but continuing to go back and forth on a fishing website is going to solve nothing.

I used to roll my eyes at threads where good people who liked the Vikings would insult good people who like the Packers and vice versa, now I’d love to come to this website and see that topic be the most drama of the day.

FYI this is a broad, general post regarding the whole matter, not directed at anyone individual.

Still going with the cheese heads are overrated at best.

I’m not turning it on til the national anthem stuff is over. my question is what is the end game? Either they stop doing it or it goes on until the end of time??? not sure what the demands are. Hard to come up with a solution when there is no demands to be met.

What a lot of people either don’t realize or don’t want to admit is that this is a broad, complex issue with valid arguments, concerns, and thoughts on both sides.

You’re absolutely right that this isn’t going to go anywhere, but I as long as people are talking about it/bringing it up I’m going to keep talking about it. That’s how things happen/change, you keep talking about them.

Which is exactly why there’s an agenda to turn these protests into an attack on the flag/military, which plays right into the emotional heart strings of certain demographics in this country.

It’s gotten so out of control that when someone kneels now they are immediately branded as anti-american, not patriotic, against our troops, etc. How does your brain make that jump? It’s such a flawed argument/deflection of the issue that it’s comical.

I will continue to talk about it, I hope players continue to talk about it, because there’s a very real reason why people want them to stomp. So they can go about their pretty little lives without having to admit that problems exist in this country and we should all try to help fix them. If that isn’t American then I don’t know what you think it is.

“Hey I think there is a problem here in this country and I’m trying to bring attention to it so maybe a conversation can get started and we can work towards a change”

“IF YOU DON’T LIKE THIS COUNTRY THEN GET OUT, HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST THAT ANYTHING IS WRONG IT CAN’T BE THIS IS AMERICA”

Still waiting on that explanation for how kneeling equates to disrespectful and how it has anything to do with the military at all.

In my opinion your answer for how does kneeling equal disrespect would be what is the reason we stand or have traditionally stood?

so if we stand to respect the flag and its meaning. what would not standing equal?

You may as well get comfy because you may be waiting a while. The most nuanced explanation I’ve been able to extract is “because it’s disrespectful.” doah

O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bomb bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream,
‘Tis the star-spangled banner – O long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto – “In God is our trust,”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

    That’s why!

Eelpout, your pigeon detoured to my place and due to recent famine we had to eat him. But I did take an old goat and tie your message to him, tied a morsel of a carrot to a stick dangling in his face and slapped em in your general direction.

If the Pack can become somewhat healthy after their bye week I think that they have another run in them like last year. I missed the opening anthem and honoring of our nations flag, most media outlets reported favorably. I’m not going to go into a tirade about who’s right and wrong, one needs to be comfortable in their own skin. I try to give more than I take, nobody is going to change overnight and a civil discussion is healthy. There’s a place for everything, kneeling while we are honoring those who protected our rights seems counterintuitive, sitting is next to appalling. I always get kinda teary eyed during an awesome rendition of our National Anthem, I knew way too many veterans who are no longer able to stand. To me it’s personal, to others they look down on me like I’m some sort of sheep. I just worry that once all of this invigorated discussion is cooled off, we end up right back where we started, or possibly worse.

Well put chomps, I wish yours could be the end of this “merry-go-round” thread that is so far digressed off topic. Shall we start over again with the Packers?? ?

It’s all about optics. When I see someone kneeling or sitting during the national anthem, I don’t need someone to tell me that’s disrespectful.

Can we qualify an entire group comprising millions of men and women with the same opinion? Are there veterans that are offended? Yes. Are there veterans that are not offended? Yes. During the whole kapernick thread there were several veterans that posted saying they weren’t offended at all and in fact, they fought so we would have the choice to do as we pleased.
