They stripped Edgar Bennett of his OC title, which was an empty title and to begin with, and fired the QB coach Alex Van Pelt. Because those guys should take the fall for the decision to carry only an unproven backup at the most important position in the game.

    Can you say Scapegoat.

I feel sorry for Rodgers in a way. If the Packers could ever assemble any kind of a defense the Packers wouldn’t require all the heroics and hail Mary’s.

    So True!!!!!

If Packers had a better defense they wouldn’t have to score so many points.

The problem for the pack is they have a D and it’s the frozen tundra! Mike is a hell of a coach and ARodge is a great leader. Problem is they got out-played, and out coached by Zim. Better luck next time!

There’s no way to know if they got out-played. Their success rides completely on Aaron Rodgers being healthy.

They were putting together a good season until he went down, tough to know what would have happened had he stayed healthy, I like to think the Vikes would have still at least split the season series.

Zimm definitely seems like a stronger coach to me, but what do I know.

There’s a lot of teams that don’t have a good STARTING quarterback, let alone a backup. I don’t think you can blame the Packers front office for not having a good backup. No one has a good backup(except the Vikings who lucked out with Keenum and Patriots before they traded big G).

Your plan B if Rodgers goes down is always going to suck, the whole offense relies on him. Meanwhile, the Vikings/Bears plan B are often not very different than plan A, because their QBs are normally terrible.

Can anyone even name more than like a half dozen backup QBs? Spending money on a good backup QB(reminder that Mike Glennon makes like $18MM/year) is money that can no longer go to your terrible defense or other holes in your lineup.

    AJ McCarron
    Matt Moore
    Chase Daniel
    Derek Anderson
    Ryan Fitzpatrick
    Brian Hoyer
    Drew Stanton
    Kellen Moore
    Chad Henne
    Matt Cassel
    Matt Schuab

Those are all backup QB’s that have had success in the NFL, been competent spelling a starter, or are deemed to have good potential. That list doesn’t even include the other backups that are better than Brett Hundley. I don’t have enough room on the page to list all of those players.

Anyone ever notice how Hundley jumps up in the air when he throws a pass. I think they broke it down during a game one time. Surprised that wasn’t noticed during the scouting process…

I like how the one guy rips on Vikings fans for saying that Thompson got lucky drafting Rodgers. Then he agreed with the one guy who said the Vikings got lucky signing Keenum as a backup and got lucky that he was good. Hypocritical much?

I love the Viking fans that say the packers have had back too back HOF quarterbacks and “only” have two titles to show yet fail to mention there own HOF qb that never won any in about 20 years of pitching…. hypocracy knows no boundrys

Every fan base has hypocritical people. That’s sports thinking your team is superior to others and trash talking about your team. I find it hilarious that eyeguy says the Packers have a puke yellow color and all the Packers fans get on him that would you say that to someone’s face? If some fans think that is over the line I wonder how they get through their day. It is just poking at your rival sports team and some people get so offended it’s hilarious to watch. If you called the Vikings purple and puke yellow I wouldn’t say anything but get your eyes checked! I should mention that there is fans like this on every sports team.

Whoa…why do I not see T-Jack on that list? Oh, maybe ’cause he was arrested like, I don’t know…how many other NFL heroes? roll

I find it funny, but not in funny way how some take this baloney seriously. Exchanging barbs. Flinging poo? Who won what with who and who not?

I enjoy football, just not going to make it an adversarial exchange on an outdoor forum.

Perhaps more of those that posted here should have considered the IDO Fantasy Football League. Then instead of shouting at each other via a keyboard, you could have proven your NFL worthiness by advancing to the FFL playoffs and winning the championship! applause

I leave you with T-Jack… whistling

Also, *pssst*, the Bears have as many super bowls in the last 30 years as the Packers do, and they have 0 years of HOF QBs in that time.

In the last 30 years the Bears have ZERO and the Packers have 2.

Whoops, Chicago didn’t win against the Colts in ’07, you’re right. They did win in 1986 though, ’86 – ’16 is 30 years.

If you can find a Vikings fan who doesn’t think 0 super bowls in the 70s with those teams and Tarkenton at the helm is a disappointing result, then I don’t know who you’re talking to :). Show me a Vikings fan that doesn’t consider 0-4 in super bowls a disappointment and I will call them a hypocrite with you!

Every Vikings fan will say that was a total disappointment, but it’s tougher to find a Packer fan that will admit the Packers really should have done better than 2 Super Bowls in those 30 years.

You and me are normally on the same page Crappie, but Success might be a bit strong of a word for some of those guys :). And a few of them were full time starters so I don’t think fit the criteria.

Pssst: not sure about how close you follow football and do math but this is 2018, the bears won there only ever super bowl in 1986 season. I will give that team credit for having the most dominate defense I have ever seen. The only modern nfl north team to win a championship other than the green and gold of green bay

Also note while I did grab the number 30, the Favre era started in 1992 which sets the current run at 25…I suspect we get 5 more years out of Rodgers but who really knows?

On a related note, Sir Francis Tarkenton was the Vikes QB for 13 years and made 3 Super Bowls, or the same amount of SB’s as 25 years of Favre/Rodgers…and yes everyone knows the Vikes lost them all, whereas the Packers won 2 of 3.

Perhaps more of those that posted here should have considered the IDO Fantasy Football League.

But then I could have wound up with Rodgers, or BigPike with Thielen or Vikings D and that would just take all the fun out of this friendly banter! rotflol

My prediction is that the GBP organization continues its oblivious navel-gazing. They’ve built up this notion of “Packers culture” and convinced themselves that outsiders don’t get it. They will stay 100% internal on these high-level hires:

    – GM will either be Eliot Wolf (because family first) or Russ Ball (who says you need to know about football to be a GM). Regardless of the choice Uncle Ted will be whispering sweet nothings about the value of compensatory picks into his ear all off-season. The first big move of the new GM’s tenure will be to trade down from the #14 pick.

    – The Defensive Coordinator will be either Winston Moss or Joe Whitt (because our LB and CB units have been so successful under their direction!)

    – And fat Mike will either continue to let Edgar Bennet serve as a powerless OC, or just quietly give that title back to him without notifying anybody.

Showing up to own my bad predictions whistling

Gutenkust is a guy I don’t know much about. I’m not surprised they stayed internal there but I am surprised by the choice. I believe Russ Ball would’ve been a disaster. I like what BG has said so far about free agency, etc., and it seems he’s put McCarthy on notice. Time will tell.

I’m a fan of the Mike Pettine hire for DC.

Bringing Philbin back as OC is not a splashy move but makes some sense. In the midst of major changes it could be advantageous to have a known commodity there. Everyone knows it’s Mike’s offense to run anyway, and Philbin did well enough in that quasi-OC role when he had it.

copied from my post in the Fire McCarthy thread in december…

I am curious to this one… McCarthy or Holmgren… who was better ? Sometimes winning percentage is more about players than coaches… what a coach does with what he is given matters more to me. Is McCarthy the GM also ? If not, get rid of the GM… obviously without Rogers, they have nothing… so much in fact that others “get hurt” quickly.

    Exactly what happened.
